There were mixed fortunes for Roscommon footballer who played in the Higher Education GAA Sigerson Cup Quarter-Finals yesterday and today. We look back on how they fared.

St Brigids’ Niall McInerney played at corner back for UCD in their 1-18 to 0-8 win over Ulster University, Jordanstown. Strokestown’s Sean Mullooly is also part of the squad.

Enda Smith (Boyle) scored 2-1 for DCU Dóchas Éireann in their Extra-Time 2-13 to 2-14 defeat to St Mary’s University College, Belfast. Shehroz Akram (Ballaghaderreen) also played and Strokestown’s David Neary was also part of the DCU panel. There was bad news for Ultan Harney (Clann na nGael). He was introduced on the half hour mark but went off injured shortly afterwards. The extend of his injury is unknown but he misses Roscommon’s game against Donegal on Sunday.

IT Carlow which included Oran’s Jack Casey and Raymond Farrell among their ranks, suffered a 1-6 to 0-10 defeat to UCC.

A short time ago University of Limerick, who count Gary Patterson (Michael Glaveys) among their squad, defeat DIT by 0-10 to 0-7. Strokestown’s Thomas Corcoran played at midfield for the Dublin side but his club mate Cathal Compton remains on the injured list.

The Sigerson Cup Semi-Finals and Final will be played at the Connacht GAA Centre on February 17th and 18th. Ul will take on UCD (meaning that there will be at least one Roscommon man in the Final) and St Mary’s University College (Belfast) will face University College Cork.

Roscommon may also have a small number of players involved in the lower tier competitions and we will have further details nearer the time.
