St Dominic’s Summer Camp

Our Summer Camp for members will be held this year from the 8th – 12th August.

Intermediate Championship: St Dominics 2-13 ; Oran 1-13.

St Dominics made four changes from their first round Championship Match and produced a great performance to defeat a fancied Oran side who had defeated Kilmore in the first round. Oran started well and led by 0-4 to nil after 13 minutes. Three Conor Fallon points brought Dominics back into the match by the 23rd minute. Oran replied with a well taken point but two further Fallon points and an Ultan Kelly point gave St Dominics the lead approaching half time. Conor Fallon cancelled out an Oran point and just on the half time whistle Naos Connaughton forced a loose ball to the back of the net to leave it 1-7 to 0-6 at the break. St Dominics started well after the break and points from Robbie Byrne, Eoin McCormack, Conor Fallon and Senan Farrell had St. Dominics up by 7 points (1-11 to 0-7) after 41 minutes. Oran had a man sent off at this stage but to their credit they took advantage of careless defending in the St. Dominics defence and racked up 1-5 without reply to now lead by 1 point with five minutes remaining. St. Dominics regained their composure and a great move was finished to the net by Brendan O’Meara. A late Ultan Kelly point gave St. Dominics a deserved victory. Team: M Miley R Byrne (0-1) D Corcoran T Doyle M Grady P Fallon T Gately O Milton S Farrell (0-1) B O Mara (1-0) C Fallon (0-8-5 frees) E McCormack (0-1) T Hurley N Connaughton (1-0) U Kelly (0-2). Junior A Football Championship: St Dominics 2-7 ; Kilglass Gaels 1-14.

St Dominics made the trip to Kilglass on Sunday last and came up just short by four points. Willie Doyle opened the scoring with a fine point but Kilglass with the aid of the elements were well on top and led by 1-4 to 0-1 midway through the half. Two Tom Gilleran frees kept St. Dominics in touch. Kilglass led by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break. The third quarter belonged to Kilglass and they led by 1-11 to 0-5 by the 50th minute with the Dominics points coming from Paul Dolan and Derek Doyle. St. Dominics introduced five subs late in the second half. There best period in the match followed with goals from John Murray and Ryan O’Beirne plus points from Tom Gilleran and O Beirne had the gap down to two points going into injury time. Kilglass notched over the insurance point deep in injury time. The semi-final featured St.John’s/Rahara/ Knockcroghery against Croghan. We were very unlucky to lose on a scoreline of 1-5 to 1-2. The girls had a number of shots on target only to be denied when their shots hit the post and crossbar. Despite the very poor conditions the girls gave it their all. Thanks to their coaches John Touhey and Breeda Keenan. Panel on the day were: A.Barton, K.Broderick, E.Connaghton, T.Craven, R.Dolan, S.Fallon, H.Finan, M.Gately, J.Keenan, M.Logan, R.Mahon, K.Morgan, H.Murray, A.O’Sullivan, M.Rogers, N.Touhey.
