Senator Maura Hopkins has welcomed the news that Biotech Europe, formerly known as Moss Vision, will commence the manufacturing of lenses at their Roscommon town facility in July.
The news was confirmed to Senator Maura Hopkins following a visit to the facility yesterday (Monday June 20th). Welcoming the news she said “This development is of significant benefit to the local economy of Roscommon Town and the wider region. Development of this facility is being supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation through IDA Ireland. Currently, the company is in the process of meeting the highest quality standards to allow manufacturing to commence. The company will be manufacturing intraocular lenses, which are used in cataract surgery to replace the eye’s natural lens.”
Senator Hopkins also stated that she is aware that “it is hoped there will be 10 employees working at Biotech Europe by the end of this year. Currently, there are five employed at the manufacturing centre. Overall, it is planned 50 jobs will be created at this facility as per business and production requirements”.
Senator Maura Hopkins concluded by saying that “the creation of these jobs is hugely positive and important in attracting individuals back to our region”.
