Minister for Communications, Climate Action & Environment, Denis Naughten TD, is to discuss the recent flooding on Sliabh Ban with officials from Coillte later this week, he has confirmed.
Denis Naughten said “I visited one of the sites of the flooding last Thursday night and listened to the very genuine concerns and legitimate questions expressed by families in the vicinity of Sliabh Ban.”
“There is no doubt that there was a deluge of rain in the wider area last week over a very short period of time. I have raised queries on this issue with both Coillte and members of my staff in Inland Fisheries who were on the mountain just hours before the severe rainfall occurred.
“I have spoken directly with both Coillte and IFI on this matter and I am currently awaiting detailed additional information. I will be meeting with Coillte this Thursday to discuss this and other issues.”
Minister Naughten added: “I will be considering the request made by local families in the context of the information that is available to me in the next few days.”
