School leavers and mature students who are considering IT Sligo as their third level destination this September will have an opportunity to get the inside track from current students and staff when the Institute holds its Course Information Day on Saturday, April 23rd.
A packed line-up of talks and workshops aims to help prospective students and their parents/guardians weigh up their third level options.
“We want to encourage new students to explore the finer details of the courses that interest them at IT Sligo,” explains Hollie Hastings, the Institute’s Student Liaison Officer. “Researching the course content and talking to current students and staff who have first-hand experience of what the programme is really like – they are the best ways of deciding if a particular course is suitable for you.”
From Applied Archaeology to Business & Sport, the schedule of talks throughout the day is wide-ranging and spans the Institute’s three Schools of Learning: Engineering & Design, Science, and Business & Social Sciences.
“We keep the durations of the course talks short and concise so that prospective students get the information they need and still have plenty of time to meet and chat with staff and current students informally,” says Stephanie Gregg who is IT Sligo’s Student Recruitment/Retention Officer.
Representatives from Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) will also be on campus to provide comprehensive advice and information on student grants. SUSI is Ireland’s single national awarding authority for all higher and further education grants. Their representatives will have guidance on using the Eligibility Reckoner where students can quickly and easily self-assess whether they may be entitled to a grant.
Course Information Day will also provide information on IT Sligo’s extensive online course offerings. There will be tips and advice for mature students on preparing for the Mature Interview – and visitors will also have a chance to see first-hand IT Sligo’s state of the art campus and facilities.
IT Sligo’s Course Information Day takes place in the Institute’s main reception on Saturday, April 23rd, from 11am to 2:30pm.
