Roscommon Farmers are paying above the national average for Agricultural Diesel and Kerosene according to the IFA’s quarterly fuel prices survey, published earlier.
IFA’s Inputs Project Team Chairman John Coughlan has reported increases in all fuel types surveyed in the most recent quarterly survey published by the Association. The results show that the cost of agricultural diesel has risen by 4% to 63 cent per litre, with similar increases being recorded for car diesel, which now costs almost 117 cent per litre.
Connacht has shown the highest increase in fuel prices, with the cost of agricultural diesel rising by over 10% in Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. This compares to a 2% increase being recorded in Leinster, 4% in Munster and 5% in Ulster.
Roscommon Farmers pay 64.63 per litre for Agricultural Diesel (up from 58.63c in the last survey); above the National Average of 62.88c. For Car Diesel they pay 115.6c per litre (up from 113.45c in the last survey); is below the National Average of 116.6c. For Kerosene (Home Heating Oil) they pay 60.63c per litre (up from 54.6c per litre in the previous survey) which is below the National Average of 58.18c per litre.
John Coughlan said, “The disproportionate increase in fuel prices in western counties is unjustifiable. Many of the farm families in these areas have had to endure the worst impact of the difficult weather conditions this year and are now faced with unexplainable increased fuel costs.”
IFA is encouraging all members to use the fuel price survey results to negotiate keener terms with fuel suppliers and to ensure that farm families are not being ripped off.
