Vincent Brooks looks back on the weekend’s action from the Roscommon and District Football League and Umbro FAI Junior Cup.

Roscommon and District Football League Premier Division side Castlerea Celtic advanced to the third round of the FAI Junior Cup following an impressive 5 – 1 win over the Sligo Super League side Ballisodare United at Castlerea. Ronan Curran gave the home side a 1- 0 lead with thirty played. Ballisodare scored before half time but in the second half Declan Creighton Dominic Bligh and two from Peter Farrell secured a win for Castlerea Celtic.

In an all Roscommon and District Football League clash Premier side Shiven Rovers beat Kilkerrin United 3 – 1 at Newbridge. Keith Mahon converted a penalty kick for Kilkerrin with forty played but at the other end a Keith Murphy cross was deflected to the Kilkerrin net by a defender just on the stroke of half time. Francis Kilcommins got a second for Shiven from the penalty spot just after half time and Luke Burke completed the scoring near the end of the game.

Division 1 side Cloonfad United had an impressive 2 – 1 win over the Sligo Super League side Manorhamilton Rangers at Cloonfad. The visitors were on top in the first half and Paul Hickey volleyed to the Cloonfad net with fifteen played. Cloonfad came more into the game in the second half and were helped when the visitors had a player sent off. Shane O Malley headed an equaliser following a corner kick with seventeen left to play and Kieran Kiely got the winner for Cloonfad six minutes from the final whistle.

Division 1 side C P Ajax beat Premier side St Johns Athletic 4 – 3 on penalties after their game finished 2 – 2 after extra time. Paul Mee and Darren Boyle gave the Castleplunket side a 2 – 0 lead after fifty five minutes of play. Tom Hurley struck twice for the home side to send the game into extra time.

Ballaghaderreen were beaten 4 – 1 at home by for Roscommon and District League side Boyle Celtic. Shane Towey scored first for Ballaghaderreen and had a second disallowed. Ex Ballaghaderreen player Danny Browne scored two and Gerard McDermott Roe and Michael Corrigan one each for the Sligo Super League side.

Premier Division leaders Ballymoe FC beat Division 1 joint leaders Dysart 3 – 2 to advance to round three. Barry Gaffey scored two and Cathal Conneely one for the winners. Eoin Fallon and Niall Corbett replied for Dysart.

Ballinasloe Town beat Sligo Premier side MCR 3 – 0 at Sligo. Garry Egan Mark Duffy and Craig Keighery scored for the winners.

The Ballinlough side Lough Harps were beaten 4 – 0 away to the Sligo Super League side St Johns FC

Skyvalley Rovers picked up three valuable points when they beat Brazukas 2 – 1 at Roscommon. Jack Moore converter a penalty kick after Martin Lennon was fouled and John Galvin added a second with a stunning volley. Vando pulled a goal back for the Brazilian side before half time but the Taughmaconnell side held on for a win.

Loughglynn United beat Rahara Rovers 3 – 2 at Rahara. The home side were ahead on two occasions in the first half thanks to Paul Flaherty but Nigel O Dowd and Christopher Dunne levelled the game from two corner kicks. Michael Jury scored a winner for Loughglynn again from a corner kick.

Dunmore Town beat Ballinasloe Town 2 – 1 at Ballinasloe. James Maloney and Ryan Fox scored for Dunmore.

In the Killeen’s Sports Grounds sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division 2

Ballinagare and Hodson Bay Athletic were involved in an eight goal thriller at Ballinagare. A late penalty from Cormac Sheehy won a point for the Kiltoom side. With Reiss Butcher and keeper Patrick Beirne in top form for Ballinagare Joseph Looby scored two and Finbar Mc Dermott and Dylan Kennedy one each for the home side. Shane Smith Stephen Cloonan and two from Cormack Sheehy ensured the Hodson Bay good run of results continue.

Cam Celtic travelled to Dunmore and came away with a good 2 – 0 win. Keith Mc Loughlin and Ronan Colgan scored for the winners in the first half.

Cloonfad United beat Shiven Rovers 3 – 0 at Cloonfad. James Mc Donagh gave them a 1 – 0 lead before Bobby Douglas added two more to secure all three points.

Roscommon United beat Castlerea Celtic 3 – 0 at Roscommon. John O Keeffe scored two and Noel Carty one for the Town side.

Moore United beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 1 at Moore. Liam Ryan and Shane Kenny scored two each in the first half for Moore. Jack Moore converted a penalty kick for the losers before Liam Ryan completed his hat trick.

Strokestown received a walk over Moylough.
