The possibility of closer ties between Roscommon County Council and their Leitrim counterparts has been proposed following a meeting of the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District Councillors.
At their last monthly meeting Councillors discussed matters relating to bordering areas which come under the remit of both municipal districts. The areas include Cortober/Carrick-on-Shannon, Rooskey, Battlebridge, and the road joining Jamestown and Drumsna, which runs through Kilmore.
Councillor Enda Stenson said “There should be a greater coming together because there is such an overlap of the two areas. We need to be working a lot closer together.” He subsequently proposed that the two Districts convene a meeting in the near future and meet every six months after that.
Councillors Sinead Guckian and Finola Armstrong-McGuire echoed his comments adding both local authorities need to come together with a coherent approach and that there was merit in meeting.
It was agreed to contact the executive of the Boyle District to arrange a joint meeting. Such a move, which would enhance the areas in question, is sure to be welcomed by the people of Roscommon and Leitrim.
