It will be the ninth meeting of the season at Roscommon Races, with the first race getting underway at 2:15pm.
The season was very hit and miss in terms of weather and this illustrated once again the impact on the racing season. But even allowing for a few downpours on Race days throughout the season, it has been a productive year for Roscommon Racecourse.
“You’d always love to have nine days of perfect weather for the race meetings, but that’s asking a lot. However, we’re very happy overall in 2016 with attendances, the interest and support from sponsors, the loyalty of racegoers and the general goodwill of the community locally and throughout the region,” remarked Roscommon Racecourse manager, Michael Finneran.
“While this is the last day for racing in 2016, it does not mean that work stops as we will be busy doing works on the next stage of our Capital Development Plan,” added Mr. Finneran.
Monday’s meeting is an eight race card, made up of four flat, two steeplechases, one hurdle and a bumper.
The feature race is the European Breeder’s Fund Kilbegnet Novice Steeplechase, which has €37,500 in prize money. Roscommon Race Course is very thankful to the support of sponsors EBF, OCR Waste Management, On Course Vets and Ms Helen Mee O’Farrelly.
Next Monday is the last chance for people in 2016 to come and enjoy a competitive day of racing for both flat and national hunt followers; an opportunity for friends to meet at the track to sample the atmosphere until the long wait to May of next year. As usual there is a free bets competition on this eight-race card. There will also be a race card draw with the winner receiving admission to all nine Race Meetings in 2017.
