DJ Represents Roscommon

Roscommon had a hurler playing in Croke Park on All Ireland hurling final day as DJ Hession, from Ros Gaels, represented his primary school Gaelscoil de hIde and Co Roscommon and played in the INTO and Cumann na mBunscoil exhibition match. dj-hessionHe was picked to play at the premier event in the hurling calendar through the primary schools competition. On the day he was on the Tipperary team and it was a great day to be wearing the jersey of the victorious Senior and Minor hurling teams and it is also the blue and gold of the Rossies so he got double value for his colours. It was a great honour for DJ to play on the hallowed turf of Croke Park on the biggest day of the hurling year. He was accompanied on the day by his proud parents, Teresa & Andy. Thanks to all involved in his primary school – Gaelscoil de hÍde, INTO and Cumann na mBunscoil Roscommon who gave DJ this wonderful opportunity. It was a memorable day for all concerned.

Coaching and Training Courses / Coach Succession – Reminder

As the end of the GAA playing season comes into view, Team Managers and their Coaches should start thinking about who will be looking after each age group next year. We should be mindful of the Coach Education Programmes that usually take place across Feb/March and ensure that all our Coaches have taken : Child Protection in Sport Awareness, Foundation Course and if possible progress to Award 1
S&C Coach. Cathal Cregg will be rolling out a Strength & Conditioning course in the coming weeks. All details on same course can be viewed here

Roscommon Gaels should be nominating one of our Coaches to take up one of the positions on the course. The ideal candidate will:
1. Need to be a qualified Level 1 Coach
2. Be expected, once they have completed the course, to coach within their own club and also give assistance to other clubs within my region if required.
3. Be asked to work as part of a Roscommon GAA Development Squad management team.

The cost of the course is €100. (this will be paid by club) Places are limited to 12 so with that there is no Guarantee that everyone who wishes to do it this time around will be able to do so. But they will get first option the next time it is being delivered. Completed (Hard Copy) Application Form to be submitted to Club Secretary no later than 16 September.

A number of courses are now available in the club and anyone interested please see the newsletter. The newsletter is available on our website where you can also subscribe to our newsletter list.
