A spokesperson for Roscommon Solstice Choir has said that being invited to perform at a Memorial Service for Ciarán Smith, the Winch-man on Rescue 116 who was tragically lost off Blacksod Bay on March 14th, was an honour and privilege.
The Memorial Service took place on Saturday last, May 20th, at Oldtown Church in north Co. Dublin. Roscommon Solstice Choir had the singular of being invited to sing at the event. The ceremony consisted of readings, poems and songs especially chosen by Ciarán’s wife Martina, all of which had special meaning for her and her family. In all, six pieces were performed by the choir, plus two solo numbers by choir Musical Director Ms Eimear Reynolds. Roscommon Solstice Choir described the Memorial Service as a very moving ceremony – “very emotional and very special”. “To be asked to perform at this event is the highest honour bestowed on Roscommon Solstice Choir to date and one for which the members are extremely grateful.”
