Kilbride Ladies retain League title

Kilbride GAA
Ladies League Final: Kilbride 5-05 Strokestown 2-13.

Huge congratulations to our Senior ladies team who retained their Division 1 League title following a nail biting encounter last Saturday evening in Oran . Strokestown had the wind at their backs for the first half and made their intentions clear from the start. They had scored 1-06 before a nervous Kilbride team got their first score on the scoreboard , a goal from the boot of Sinead Clabby after 18 minutes. Within 3 minutes Fiona Tully got in for a second. Incredibly Kilbride got in for a third within 3 more minutes , once again from Fiona Tully . At the half way mark Strokestown’s lead had been reduced to just 3 points 2-07 to 3-01 and the Kilbride nerves had settled . Strokestown continued to pile on the pressure despite playing against the wind and once again kept Kilbride scoreless for the first 15 minutes while they added 5 further points. Kilbride looked like they were in trouble but to their credit they dug deep and finished the stronger team . Fiona Tully pounced for her hat trick , and then a sublime pass from Siobhan Tully cross field to Casey Keane saw her coolly slot the ball to the net . The same player scored a great point to bring the game level with playing time almost up. Two further points from the boot of Eilish Fannon saw Kilbride go two points clear, but there was time for one last Strokestown attack which yielded a point. The large Kilbride support drew a breath of relief when the referee blew the full time whistle and there were jubilant scenes when the shield was presented to captain Siobhan Tully by fixtures Chairman Johnny Cox.
