Vincent Brooks rounds-up the weekend’s Roscommon and District Football League action which saw Dysart crowned Division One Champions and the Premier Division thrown open.
Congratulations are extended to Dysart who were crowned Roscommon and District Football League Division 1 Champions when they made it fifteen straight wins by beating Rahara Rovers 4 – 0 at Dysart. With only three series of matches remaining Dysart are twelve points ahead of second placed Cloonfad United. Darragh Keegan gave Dysart an early lead and shortly afterwards Rahara had a great chance of levelling the game but they failed to convert a penalty kick. John Coyne Paul Higgins and Ferdinand Coyne added three more for Dysart before the end.
Moore United go top of the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District Football League following a 3 – 1 win over the Newbridge based Shiven Rovers at Falty Park Moore. Declan Duffy gave Moore a 1- 0 lead after only five minutes of play. Francis Kilcommins levelled the game with eighteen played when he converted a penalty kick. David Harrington volleyed a second for the home side with thirteen played and Darragh Concannon added a third just after half time. Shiven had a great chance to get back in the game but Francis Kilcommins had a rare miss from the penalty spot with twenty minutes left to play.
In a local derby game at Ballymoe the home side were beaten 2 – 0 by title Holders Castlerea Celtic. Ballymoe finished the game with nine players which made it easy for a very experienced Castlerea Celtic side. David Fitzpatrick after twenty five minutes and Peter Farrell with sixty played scored for a Castlerea Celtic side who are four points behind the leaders Moore with a game less played. Ballymoe are still very much in the title race in second place a point behind the leaders
Ballinasloe Town had a comfortable 6 – 1 win over the Brazilian side Brazukas at Ballinasloe. Kenneth Kenny opened the scoring for the winners and Otavio Vilela equalised. Eoin Mc Cormack David Cullen Brian Campbell Mark Duffy and David Grehan added one each to keep Ballinasloe Town’s hopes of winning the Premier Division very much alive.
Ballaghaderreen all but ended their relegation worries when they beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 3 at Onagh Park, Taughmaconnell. The game could have gone either way until the closing minutes when the home side missed a penalty kick and Ballaghaderreen scored a late goal. Shane Towey scored two for the winners and Lee Keenan Cathal Horan and Thomas Towey added one each. Sean Fahy scored two and Adrian Mannion one for Skyvalley Rovers.
Cloonfad United moved a step closer to promotion to the Premier Division when they beat Kilkerrin United 7 – 1 at Cloonfad. Cian Ruane and Shaun Kearney gave the winners a 2- 0 half time led. After the break Kearney added four more and Ryan Merchant one with Declan Murphy replying for Kilkerrin United.
Third place Lough Harps drew 2 – 2 at home to Ballinasloe Town. Adrian Cregg in the first half and Sean Burke in the second half scored for the Ballinlough side.
The Castleplunket side CP Ajax beat Loughglynn United 6 – 0 at Tarmon and they share third spot with three series of matches left to play. The Division’s leading goal scorer Paul Mee scored three and Sean Joyce, Darren Boyle and Mike Kerrane added one each.
Glen Celtic drew 1 – 1 with Dunmore Town at Glenamaddy. Willie Comer scored for the home side and Conor Gleeson replied for Dunmore.
Strokestown United moved a step closer to winning the Roscommon and District Football League Division 2 title when they beat Hodson Bay Athletic 4 – 1 at Strokestown.
Kevin Finn scored two and Mark McEvoy and Adrian Dooney added one each. Mike Derwin’s goal kept the losers in the game until the last fifteen minutes.
Second placed Moore United were beaten 5 -1 at home by Cam Celtic. The winners scored all five goals in a twenty five minute period in the first half. David Cunniffe scored four and Edward Egan one for Cam with Mark Whelan pulling a goal back for Moore United.
Roscommon United kept their promotion hopes alive with a 6 – 0 win over Cloonfad United at Cloonfad. Karl Garvin Jamie Bracken and Paul McHugh scored two each for the winners.
Dunmore Town beat Skyvalley Rovers 6 -1 at Dunmore. Justin Ray scored 3 and Anthony Broderick two and Brendan Nestor one for the winners. Sean Finneran scored for the losers.
Shiven Rovers beat Castlerea Celtic 5 – 2 at Newbridge. Seamus O Kelly and David Kelly scored two each and Enda Fitzmaurice and David Quinn added one each for Shiven Rovers. Martin Foster and Robby Kelly replied for Castlerea Celtic.
