Elphin man helps deliver baby in Kitchen

Elphin native Denis Kelly received a surprise in the early hours of this morning when his partner Áine Laffan gave birth to their son in their Kitchen.

Denis, who lives in Limerick with partner Áine and son Fionn, had been visiting his family in Elphin and rushed back to Limerick after a call from Áine. Baby Odhran was in a hurry and arrived just after 4:40am – three weeks early and ten minutes before the local Ambulance could reach their home.

Speaking to the Limerick Leader Áine said “We were hoping for a home birth, but there were complications, so we didn’t think we would get the chance. But in the end, he was born at home.”

Denis joked there are a few “midwives in training” in their household now, adding “I just caught the baby.”
