Vincent Brooks rounds-up the action from the Roscommon and District Football League, which say Ballymoe FC maintain their unbeaten run and plenty of goals elsewhere.
Ballymoe FC continue to lead the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District League following an impressive 2 – 1 win over title contenders Moore United at Falty Park Moore. They now have fifteen points from their five opening games. Moore started well and Ethan Keogh had them ahead after nine minutes. Ballymoe came more into the game as time progressed and were level within a minute of the restart of the game. A cross from James Connaughton reached Gregory Grogan who made no mistake. Twenty minutes later Ballymoe were 2 – 1 up. Daniel Malone finished a Keith Muldoon corner kick.
Title Holders Castlerea Celtic are three points behind the leaders following a 2 – 1 win over Shiven Rovers. The winners were much the better side in the opening half and Peter Farrell and Ronan Curran gave them a 2 – 0 half time lead. The Newbridge side came more into the game in the second half and Michael Doyle pulled a goal back with fifteen left to play when he headed a Shane Harkin free kick to the Castlerea Celtic net.
Ballaghaderreen edged out St Johns Athletic 3 -2 at Ballaghaderreen. Gerry Ward gave the home side an early lead when he converted a penalty kick after Shane Towey was fouled.
Dermott Donnelly levelled the game and Ultan Kelly gave St Johns Athletic a 2 – 1 lead with forty one played. Just before the half time whistle James Horan levelled the game for the home side. With sixty eight played Gerry Ward converted his second penalty kick and only a brilliant save by Dermott Horan denied the Lecarrow side a point near the end.
The Brazukas v Ballinasloe Town game was postponed.
Ahascragh United won their first point of the season when they drew 1 – 1 at home to Skyvalley Rovers. With just two minutes played Joe Hunt was fouled and Derek Dervin scored from the resultant penalty kick. Skyvalley Rovers won a penalty kick with seventy four played and Jack Moore converted the spot kick.
In the Norio’s Take Away sponsored Division 1 of the Roscommon and District Football League Dysart made it four straight league wins when they beat Glen Celtic 3 – 1 at Glenamaddy.
The home side had a penalty saved in the first half and this was to prove costly as the game progressed.
Keith Waldron Paul Higgins and Niall Corbett all scored for Dysart in the second half before Glen Celtic pulled a goal back.
Cloonfad United have also won their four opening games and share the lead with Dysart. In a local derby game they beat the Ballinlough side Lough Harps 2 – 0 at Ballinlough. Andy Glennon broke the deadlock when he scored with twenty six minutes played. Frank Ronane added a second for Cloonfad United with three played in the second half. Any hopes Lough Harps had of making a come back were dashed when they had a player sent off ten minutes into the second half.
Dunmore Town beat Kilkerrin United 5 – 0 at Dunmore to keep their title hopes very much alive. Thomas Gleeson scored two and Stephen Morrison Brian Higgins and Conor Gleeson got one each for Dunmore Town
The Castleplunket side CP Ajax beat Rahara Rovers 3 – 1 at Tarmon. New signing Damien Conboy, Kevin Knight and Paul Mee scored for the Castleplunket side.
In the Kileen Sportsgrounds sponsored Division 2 of the Roscommon and District Football League, leaders Strokestown United and Hodson Bay Athletic shared the spoils in a six goal thriller at Strokestown.
The home side went into a 3 – 0 half time lead thanks to Daniel Rodgers, Kevin Finn and David Neary. In the second half the Kiltoom side struck back and Cormac Sheehy scored their first two before, Shane Lacey levelled the game.
Roscommon United closed the gap on the leaders when they beat Cloonfad United 7 – 3 at Roscommon. Paul Allen scored three, Karl Garvin two and Enda Lannon and an own goal completed the scoring for the winners. Paul Birmingham, Cian Ruane John Connelly scored for Cloonfad United.
Shiven Rovers beat Castlerea Celtic 2- 1 at Castlerea. Martin Foster scored for the home side with five played and David Kelly scored in each half to win all three points for the Newbridge side.
Moylough 79 snatched a late equaliser in their 4 – 4 draw at home to Ballinagare. Finbar Hughes and Marcus Finn scored two each for Moylough. Aidan Dowd got a hat trick and Dylan Kennedy added one for Ballinagare
Moore United beat Cam Celtic 4 – 2 in a very close contest at Moore. Thomas Rock got a hat trick for Moore and Dean Carpenter added their fourth. Darragh Donnelly and Mark Mc Cauley replied for an unlucky Cam Celtic side.
Dunmore Town beat Skyvalley Rovers 5 – 1 at Onagh Park Taughmaconnell. James Farrell for the home side and Anto Nimic for Dunmore scored in the first half. After the break Danny Ridge scored two and Danny Farragher and Guillaume Rey added one each for Dunmore side who share the lead in this division.
