Penalty curse strikes again

The U12/13s penalty curse struck again on Saturday as they bowed out of the FAI Cup in a game we dominated at home to Moyne Villa. Robert Heneghan hit the crossbar early on and soon after missed a penalty. Cloonfad took the lead on 41 mins when Conor Ruane sent a cracking shot to the net. However we allowed the visitors back into the contest and they took the lead with their only two attempts on goal. Ruane hit the crossbar with another great effort and all look lost for Cloonfad. However Dylan Connolly and Niall Heneghan worked an opening for Michael Keadin who duly finished to the net to force extra time. We treook the lead in the first period from a long range Luke Ruane strike but poor concentration allowed Moyne Villa to level and send the tie to penalties. However as this team already went out of three other competitions this season on spot kicks confidence wasn’t great and we duly went out 3-1.

Adults win

The B Team got the weekend going with a 3-0 victory over Shiven Rovers on Friday evening. James McDonagh and two goals from Bobby Douglas with two got the goals.

The First Team had an unexpected win over Manorhamiliton Rangers in the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday. When Manorhamilton led 1-0 after an hour of play, they had a player sent off which turned the game in our favour. Two headed goals from Shane O Malley and Kieran Kiely sent us in to this weeks third round draw.

Next Sunday we face our local rivals Lough Harps. Kick-off: 2p.m Ballinlough. The B Team are away to Roscommon Utd at 11.30a.m on Sunday.
