If it’s October, then its Lollipops month at Roscommon Arts Centre!
Their annual, month-long season of events for young audiences boasts aerial dance, music performances, a new show for early years audiences and more workshops with the ever-popular brickflicks gang!
We’re targeting schools this year with most of our performances happening during school time. Aerial Dance Company, Fidget Feet open the programme with a new show “Cinder and the Ellas” taking to the air above the stage on Tuesday 11th October. Aimed at 8 – 12 year olds, this show is full of circus acts, aerial hoops and trapezes.
Music
Graffiti Classics are back with their high-energy classical music performance for aged 5+. This all-singing, all dancing musical show is a classical concert, a gypsy-folk romp, an opera and a dance show all rolled into one – from Beethoven to Bluegrass, Saturday Night Fever to Elvis – its a great introduction to classical music for young audiences!
Monster Music Improv brings together musicians that will create funky jazz melodies on the spot, while cartoonist Patrick Sanders draws cartoons of the same music on the screen on stage in a rather unusual adventure in the arts centre. Brought to you in association with “The Ark”, Ireland’s cultural centre for children, this should be a pretty cool event that is sure to tap into the imaginations of our younger audiences.
Theatre
With a focus of work for very young audiences in this year’s programme at Roscommon arts Centre, we welcome Galway based children’s Theatre company Branar and Starcatchers with their new show “The Shape of Things” for very little ones. This is the story of Cubert the cube and Traintan the triangle and the adventures they have when all the shapes get mixed up! Set in a soft and tactile environment, this interactive story is yet another great opportunity to introduce little ones to the magical world of theatre and performance!
Film Making
The final strand in Lollipops this year is another chance to join the Brickflicks gang for some spooky stop-motion film making. Using your lego figurines, you will learn how to make spooky sets, create zombie invasions and have your favourite lego character be the star of the movie and save the day! Suitable for kids aged 8+, sessions are divided into two – with one for beginners and a second for our regular brickflickers.
