The John McCarthy Golf Classic played at Carrick Golf Club on Friday and Saturday last, September 2nd and 3rd was a resounding success.
With over 300 players taking part in typical Irish summer conditions of sunshine and showers followed by rain, Friday proved to be the best of the two days yet only three of the prize winners came from Friday. The format of play was 4 person scramble any combination and the winning combination came from Roscommon and Strokestown Captained by Sean Collins assisted by Mickey McSharry Kevin McLoughlin & John Smith they had 53 points which included 12 birdies one bogey & 5 pars, in second place also on 53 points but pipped on back 9 score Paul O’Brien Colm & Darragh Loftus & Joe Hussy and third with 52 points from Friday Gerry Emmett Tom Gallagher Pat Gannon & Michael Keville. The winning Ladies combination also came from Friday with 42 points Ann Campbell Helen Martin Phil McWeeney and Peggy Nolan second in the Ladies Brenda Kelly Patricia O’Hara Mary Molloy & Brigid Mannion on 40 points.
