Junior Team
The Devine & Co chartered Accountants sponsored Junior Team had a great win in their final group game of the championship against Castlerea on Friday night last in Athleague. We got off to a flying start and were 1-06 to 0-01 up after 15 minutes thanks to a well taken goal from Sean Carroll and some accurate free taking from Conor Sampey. Castlerea then got back into the game in the remaining 10 minutes of the half to reduce the margin to 5 at the interval at 1-09 to 0-07. It was a lot tighter in the 2nd half with both sides exchanging scores and Castlerea drew level with a goal to tie the scores at 1-11 a piece entering the last 5 minutes. Western Gaels then went ahead with a free from Jack Higgins but Castlerea equalised again as the game ticked into the 61st minute. A draw seemed the likely result before Sean Carroll popped up at the end of a great team move to fire over the winning score to ensure we qualified for the quarter finals of the championship where we will face St. Brigids in 2 weeks time.
Final scoreline: Western Gaels B 1-13 Castlerea B 1-12.
