“I am calling on Minister Canney today to change the terms of reference on how a cost benefit analysis is carried out with regard to minor works in areas affected by flooding. Several important factors are not being taken into account and this applies to areas like Lough Funshinagh, Correal and Castleplunkett. and to another 130 areas throughout Galway and Roscommon that I have highlighted which need urgent attention.”
“In many cases the priority of actually getting rid of the floodwaters is being ignored which in my view is by far the most important thing. We have to act now to prevent more misery next winter and in the winters to come” concluded Michael Fitzmaurice.
