Following this afternoon’s announcement that Saturday’s All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Round 4A game between Roscommon and Clare is to be played in Pearses Stadium a large number of supporters have voiced their dis-satisfaction at venue choice.
Supporters have taken to various platforms and momentum is now gathering behind a campaign by supporters to get the game moved from Salthill to another location. There has been widespread shock and anger through out the county at the fact that Roscommon Supporters will be forced to travel to Salthil on one of the busiest Saturday’s of the summer. One supporter, who contacted the Roscommon Daily, said “Race Week starts next week and we (Roscommon GAA Supporters) are expected to go to Salthill. I was 3 hours travelling from Roscommon to Salthill last week and it took me nearly 2 hours to get out of the city to get home. It’s a total joke” he added.
Some supporters have questioned why Roscommon GAA have “let this happen”. When contacted by the Roscommon Daily, Roscommon GAA County PRO Hugh Lynn said that he was aware of people’s upset and said “we in Roscommon GAA are not overly happy either however the CCCC have made the fixture and we must play the fixture.”
The game is set to throw-in at 3pm and will also be shown live on Sky Sports.
