Mid Western Girls Soccer League Team travel to Limerick
The Geraghty Travel sponsored Mid Western Girls Soccer League Under 14 side were in Gaynor Cup action in Limerick last weekend.
Following a scoreless draw with Tipperary South, the team then defeated NECSL 1-0 thanks to a fine Leigh McGinley strike. Unfortunately for the MWGL girls their opponents in the final group game, Cork, were in fine form and ran out 5-1 winners with MWGL’s goal coming from Caitlin Boyle.
The Sligo/Leitrim league defeated MWGL 4-1 in their play-off game as MWGL finished a respectable 12th overall. Well done to all the players and thanks to the management team and parents who travelled to Limerick.
Mid Western Girls Soccer League Club Round-up
In the M2 Sport Under 10 league there were tight games between Kilkerrin United & CP Ajax, Castlerea Celtic & Glen Celtic and Ballaghaderreen & Shiven Rovers. Jessica Doyle, Katie Freeman, Ava Mcgreal & Aoife Shanley all impressed.
In the Westward Scania Under 12 league, Castlerea Celtic Tigers had a comprehensive win over Ballaghaderreen while Castlerea Celtic Lions had a hard-fought 2-1 win over Dunmore Town. Glen Celtic defeated CP Ajax 5-3 with the Glen goals coming from Sarah O’Neill (3), Emma Comer & Emer Keane while Aimee Caslin & Rebecca Keane (2) replied for the Castleplunkett side. Strokestown United had a narrow 1-0 win over Kilkerrin United with Tiegan Gibbons scoring from a free kick.
