Two County Roscommon Musical Societies have been nominated for Association of Irish Musical Societies Awards.
Boyle Musical Society production of The Wizard of Oz has received four nominations –
– Damien Regan & Clive Flynn of Boyle Musical Society have been nominated for “Best Stage Management” (The Margaret Doherty Trophy) for their work on The Wizard of Oz.
– Grainne Caldbeck has been nominated for “Best Comedienne” (The Ballywillan Drama Group Trophy) for her performance as the Wicked Witch.
– “Best Technical – Lighting, Sets and Sound Award” (The Br Fitzy Trophy) and “Best House Management Award” (The Ennis Musical Society Trophy).
Julie Heaney of Castlerea Musical Society has been nominated for the “Best Female Singer” (Mary Murray-Ingram Trophy) for her performance as Sarah Browne in Guys and Dolls.
Three Musical Societies outside the county who have members from Roscommon have also received nominations. Nicole McDonald of Athlone Musical Society is nominated for “Best Choreography for Rock of Ages”. The Society has also been nominated for “Best Programme” and “Best House Management” (Mary Kitt Trophy) – where they will face competition from St Mel’s Musical Society, Longford for their production of “The Addams Family”. Paul Norton of Ballinasloe Musical Society has been nominated for “Best Comedian” for his performance as Max Bialystock in The Producers.
