Michael Fitzmaurice has called on the Minister for Agriculture to immediately prioritise the implementation of the technology and training required to enable Department staff to process TAMS applications and associated paperwork quicker.
The Roscommon-Galway TD feels that the work should start immediately so that farmers who have been waiting for many months can start building new slatted sheds and carry out other improvements on farms under TAMS.
“This must be a priority this week as the weather is now ideal for carrying out such work and in almost all cases planning permission has been granted, but up to now this work has not been prioritised by the Department. I have been contacted by many farmers on this issue in recent weeks and I am calling on the new Minister to hit the ground running this week and ensure that these works can be carried out on farms all over the country which will help the rural economy as well as the farmers concerned. There is no excuse for delays and I will be following up this as a matter of urgency” he concluded.
