SENIORS OVERCOME ST.BRIGID’S IN KILTOOM
St. Brigids 0-8 Clann na nGael 1-11
Clann na nGael upped their performance this week to take on local rivals St Brigids in the 5th round of the league. A much improved work ethic by the team throughout and in particular the back line who kept the opposition forward line at bay. It was a very close encounter early in the first half with points exchanged both sides.
Donie Shine was again on top form scoring 4 points, Johnny Dunning took on the defence and caused problems in the Brigid’s backline, but the turning point was a fantastic goal by Emmet Kenny who ran onto a well placed ball which opened up defence and scored to leave Clann na nGael 1-5 to 5 points ahead at half time.
Donie Shine again continued on in the 2nd half with 3 further points, giving him a total of 7 points for the game, having scored 8 points last week. Great performances also this week by Emmet Kenny and Cian McManus in the forward line, Graham and Darra Pettit in midfield, Stephen Flynn and Sean McManus in the back line. The result this week will give Clann na nGael confidence going forward and hopefully our injured players will be fully fit and ready for the start of the championship on the 7th of May against Roscommon Gaels.
Team: Cathal Hannon, Aaron O’Reilly, Stephen Flynn, Ronan Gavin, Fergal Lennon, David Flynn, Sean McManus, Graham Pettit, Darra Pettit, Cian McManus, Donie Shine, Emmet Kenny, Jonathan Dunning, Jamie Fahy, Cathal Callinan.

FUERTY TOO STRONG FOR CLANN ‘B’ IN O’GARA CUP

Clann na nGael 1-09 Fuerty 3-14

Clann na nGael intermediates played Fuerty in Johnstown at 3pm which was preceded by a win for the seniors in Kiltoom. This was Clann’s fifth game in the O’Gara Cup having lost all but one game so far. Clann na nGael were short a number of players due to work commitments but battled hard to stay in the game. Clann na nGael conceded two goals in the first half even though Gary Mannion in goal made a number of fine saves.
Niall Kilroy for Fuerty was the difference in the two teams proving very difficult to contain with Clann na nGael trying a number of different markers on him. Shane Pettit was black carded early in the game which also didn’t help Clann’s cause.
Mark Shine kept Clann na nGael in the game with placed balls to leave the score at half time Clann na nGael 0-06 Fuerty 2-05.
Clann na nGael faced an up hill battle in the second half and managed to get back to within three points of Fuerty midway through the second half. Mark Shine was keeping the Clann na nGael scoreboard ticking and scored a goal from play. But again the goals made the difference and Fuerty struck for their third leaving the gap too great to close. The score ended Clann na nGael 1-09 with Fuerty 3-14.
Team: G. Mannion, D Egan, B Goode, M Flannery, C Connaughton, P Harney, G Nicholson, M Scally, M Costello, D Connaughton, C Bannon, S Pettit, R Naughton, M Shine, C McManus

UNDER 12 DIVISION 4 TEAM COME OUT ON TOP IN TIGHT GAME

Clann na nGael B 2-6 Éire Óg 2-5

In a wonderful encounter in Johnstown on Sunday afternoon, Clann’s u12 division 4 team held on for the narrowest of victories against the previously unbeaten Éire Óg team.
Two well drilled teams showed great skill and massive determination in the game, where the result was uncertain until the final whistle. It was refreshing to see a game played in the right spirit and, for Clann, the result was a bonus.
Each of the fourteen players who represented the club deserve great credit. A busy week ahead for the u12s with the div 1 and div 6 teams playing Roscommon Gaels in Johnstown on Monday and two teams playing against St Dominics in the Walsh cup on Wednesday, also in Johnstown.
With the training sessions and games, there is plenty of football for all our boys over the next weeks and months ahead. Keep up the good work.
