Strictly Encore

Following the success and the enjoyment of our maiden ‘Strictly Come Dancing Brigid’s Style’ the Club is planning a ‘Strictly Encore’ in the autumn. We are now looking for any ‘movers and shakers’ who would like to take part. As you know from the first ‘victims’ no prior dancing experience necessary, just a great time promised! If you are interested or know of anybody else who might be please contact Kevin Clabby at 0862588334. As we already have some ‘eager volunteers’ lined up the remaining places will fill quickly. So get your names in fast!!

Cardiac Screening Clinic

Will be held in the club on Saturday 23rd April. The clinic will be open from 9.30am-5pm. Each screening will take 20 minutes and is open to all club members at a cost of €65 per person.
Anyone with LAYA is FREE but please remember to mention this and have your Laya details with you.
Why undergo a Cardiac Screening?
Up to 100 young people die each year in Ireland from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS)
1 in 300 people may have a cardiac abnormality
The national register recently reported that the incidents of SADS are higher in Ireland than many other European countries.
In Italy cardiac screening is mandatory for anyone aged 12 to 35 years involved in competitive sport for the past 25 years. They have reduced the incidents of SADS by 89%.
The GAA’s Medical Scientific and Welfare Committee and the International Rugby Board recommend cardiac screening for all players over the age of 14 years
The European Society of Cardiology & the International Olympic Committee recommends cardiac screening.
Heartaid’s service is based on the recommendations of the above named organisations.
Bookings can be made online or over the phone (1890 300 333). Go to www.ameds.ie

St Brigids 9-4, Shannon Gaels 1-1

Our EMC sponsored girls had a great start to the Feile competition with an impressive victory over Shannon Gaels on Wednesday last in Kiltoom.
Team: A. Curran 1-0, M. Nolan, S. Dolan, A. O’Donovan, A. Lennon, R. Collins, H. Martin, S. Butler, L. Gallagher 1-0, A. Fallon 1-0, G. Loftus 4-1, I. Finnerty, C. Lennon,  A. Nestor 0-1, A. White 2-2. Subs: N. Heneghan,  A. McGrath, E. Callaghan, K. Daly, S. Downey, S. Reid.

St Brigids 6-11, Padraig Pearses 8-1

Our Pieta House sponsored u16’s were very unlucky to lose out to Pearses in the last game of the group stages of championship. Despite the 5 point difference in the final score, it was a much tighter game throughout with Brigid’s leading at half time 2-6 to 2-4. The second half saw a feast of goals for both sides with our three Curran’s finding the back of the net as well as Kate Nolan. As Brigid’s began to run out of steam, Pearses seemed to have another gear and pulled ahead in the last few minutes to go out five point winners.
Team: H. Martin, R. Dolan, S. Dolan, E. Carroll 0-1, A. O’Donovan, A. Coyle, K. Nolan 1-5, R. Callaghan 0-1, J. McGrane 0-1, E. Curran 1-0, R. Gallagher 0-1, L. Curran 3-1, A. Curran 1-1.
