Roscommon is looking forward to another bumper Easter Parade in the town this Sunday with the now landmark community event kicking off at the earlier time of 12 noon this year.
A final call for entries has been issued this week and those still interested in taking part are not too late – email [email protected] or call 086 – 849 5751 or 086 – 314 7318.
This year’s event will feature a special “1916” themed award and the committee is grateful for the funding support received from Roscommon County Council under the Roscommon Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme. Honours will also be presented for the usual categories: Community/Voluntary, Commercial, Shop Window Display, Most Entertaining and Best Overall. Those coming along are being encouraged to get creative and join in the fun with their Easter Bonnet creations for which there are also some nice prizes.
Earlier Start Time of 12 noon
The parade will follow its traditional route with floats assembling in the Abbeytown area from 11:30am. To accommodate the match and what is anticipated to be a very busy day in town the parade will start at the earlier time of 12 noon sharp. It will follow the usual route from Abbey Street into Church Street on to Main Street past the reviewing stand on The Square and concluding in Castle Street at Rockford’s.
Easter Parade Safety
The community will be out in force and organisers are appealing to everyone to make an extra special effort to maintain safety and cleanliness. Marshals and civil defence volunteers will assist and those participating are asked to follow directions and refrain from throwing sweets and or other items from floats during the parade. Roscommon Tidy Towns and Roscommon County Council are providing support in relation to litter management with extra bins located along the route. Notification of any traffic restrictions will be issued by An Garda Síochána.
