Contractors appointed by Roscommon County Council have begun enabling works on the N61 Road Realignment Project
. The N61 is more commonly know as the Road linking Athlone and Boyle and the project will see two sections of the Road being Realigned; at the Ratallen and Runnaboll Townlands and Treanagry and Knockroe Townlands which are both between the Shankill turn-off for Elphin and the town of Boyle .
The Road will soon be closed between Caldra Cross Roads and the “4 Provinces Public House” for a period of up to 12 months with through traffic being directed via Tulsk, Frenchpark and into Boyle via the R361 (and vice versa). The R370 Carrick on Shannon (Cortober) to Frenchpark road will not be affected by the project.
Roscommon County Council recently indicated their intention to apply to Transport Infrastructure Ireland for permission to carry out major work at four other locations in the county including the realignment of the N61 Roscommon to Athlone road at Ballymurray and Knockcroghery, the N60 in Castlerea, at the Railway Gates, the N61 from Clashaganny to Tulsk and the Athleague to Mount Talbot road.
