Handball

Despite some fine performances it was a disappointing weekend for Roscommon Handball representatives with four teams losing Semi-Finals and two having to withdraw. Read a full report here.

Rugby

Carrick RFC lost 27-0 to Corinthians in the Connacht League Semi-Final Replay. Report to follow.

Gaelic Football

Roscommon bowed out of the Allianz Football League following a 0-14 to 3-15 defeat to Kerry. Read our report here

Soccer

Camogie

Roscommon defeated Kerry by 2-8 to 0-5 in the Irish Daily Star Div 3 League Semi-Final. Kelley Hopkins scored 1-4 with Fiona Connell getting the second and points from McGeeney, Rogerson, Coyle and O’Brien.
They will face unbeaten Armagh, who defeated Dublin by 1-14 to 2-10, in the Final.

Saturday

Special Olympics

The Connacht Floorball team, featuring members from Roscommon and Athlone Special Olympics Clubs, took Silver Medals in the Special Olympics Irish Winter games.

Roscommon and District Football League

In The Herald Premier Division Moore Utd overcame Cloonfad Utd 2-1 and in the Norios TakeAway Division One it finished Brazukas 2 Ahascragh 2.

Boxing

Darren Cruise narrowly missed out on capturing the Irish Super-Middleweight Title, losing to JJ McDonagh on a points decision.
Earlier this evening Matthew Macklin defeated Brian Rose on points 113-113; 115-111; 115-111 in their Middleweight contest. 33 year old Macklin had indicated that he would retire if he lost.

Hurling

A Ronan O’Meara point in the 3rd minute of injury time saw Roscommon promoted to Division 2B of the Allianz Hurling League for 2017. It ended Roscommon 3-13 Donegal 4-9 with Adrian Murphy scoring 3-1 for the Rossies.

Gaelic Football

The Roscommon Minor Footballers defeated Leitrim by 2-13 to 0-8 and in doing so, won the Connacht League.
Shannon Gaels defeated Castlerea St Kevins B 3-15 to 0-9 in the Tansey Cup – AFL Division 3.

Ladies Gaelic

In the Connacht Under 14 Ladies Football Championship: Roscommon 1-13 Mayo 5-11

Friday

Pool

“The Central” defeated “Eddie’s” 6-4 after a play-off to win the Shield Semi-Final of the Roscommon Pool League. They will now play Sorohans in the Final.

Handball

Fiona Tully and Jennifer McCormack were defeated in the All-Ireland 40×20 Handball Semi 21-16, 10-21, 9-21

Soccer

Both of last night’s Roscommon and District Football League Fixtures fell victim to the weather.

There was one games Tansey Cup – Adult Football League Division 3: Western Gaels B 2-9 St Aidans B 0-7
