Ballintubber is currently playing host to a month of cultural, historical and musical events to coincided with arrival of American archaeologists and students who will be residing and working in the area.
The festivities were launched on June 25th and feature something for everyone including “Day in the Bog”, Traditional Music Song and Dance and Children’s activities. The full schedule is outlined below
Friday July 1st
Exhibition of old style shoe making and national dress by Con. Connor in old schoolhouse at 8pm. Traditional session in Kenny’s, all welcome.
Saturday July 2nd
Mary Timoney Archaeologist in Old Graveyard at 11am.
“Reach for the Stars” talent contest in Garvey’s.
Sunday July 3rd
Bog mans BBQ with an American twist, shot put competition in Garvey’s 2.30-6pm.
Kenny’s : Comhaltas party with Elphin Set Dancers and Fahy school of Dancing in the evening. that night there will be American and Irish dancing with Drifting Cowboy.
George Quinn Memorial Cup Competition in Garvey’s featuring long jump and shot putt. All competitors welcome, George’s old shot putt will be in action.
Battle of the Handball champions: PJ Corcoran and D. O’Shaughnessy in the old Handball Alley.
Monday July 4th
A Day in the bog! Experience old style turf cutting, footing and clamping competition. Tea, bacon, eggs, brown bread etc served. Sponsored by Tom Garvey
Tuesday July 5th
Final of “Reach for the Stars” competition in the Big Red Barn at Roscommon Racecourse.
Wednesday July 6th
Garvey’s:Night to Remember Super Concert at 8pm. Featuring Glenamaddy Comhaltas – Champion dancers, musicians and singers.
Thursday 7th July
Celtic Spirituality service at St. Brides Well at 8pm

Sing along in Garvey’s with Kevin and friends.
Sunday 10th July
Kenny’s:The Rovers Return party evening, music by Strings Attached. Followed that night by music and dancing with Mark Finn.

Heritage Weekend
Saturday July 16th
1pm Exhibition of traditional cooking and crafts, Vintage cars, country market, guided tours of Ballintubber Castle and display of any findings by the archaeologists. Car booth sale, fashion, beauty and health hut open at Kenny’s.
Tug-O-War in Garvey’s: Americans V locals, potato picking, traditional food served music and dancing.
Night Sing along with Kevin and friends.
Family fun day in Kenny’s, music and dancing, street entertainment.
Sunday July 17th
Historical village walk, meeting up in Old Ballintubber Schoolhouse at 2pm.
Scenes from the 1916 Rising will be on display in Old schoolhouse.
Horse shoeing demonstration at Old Forge, vintage cars and old farm machinery.
Kenny’s will feature dancing at the crossroads, fun and games, evening entertainment with Celtic Cru.

Garvey’s Garden party is not to be missed or maybe watch old DVDs featuring Fairs and Festivals from the 90’s.
Monday July 18th
Medieval Camp for children, featuring story telling and dressing up in medieval costume. Old Schoolhouse at 2pm. Booking essential.

Farewell party, BBQ, music by Moonlight Serenaders and Irish Showtime. All welcome.
Friday July 23rd
Swords and Daggers display at Ballintubber Castle
