Senator Maura Hopkins has welcomed the news that farmers in Roscommon and Galway are set to receive €3.6 million in the final instalments of BPS payments which are being paid this week.
Senator Hopkins said, “A number of farmers across Roscommon and Galway have been in contact with me in recent weeks regarding the payment of their final instalments. I have contacted Minister For Agriculture, Michael Creed TD who has informed me that the final instalments will be paid this week under the Basic Payments Scheme 2015.”
“With the payment of this final instalment over €1.2 billion will have been paid directly to farmers since last September. This is a very significant boost for farmers in our region, I am happy to see that they are receiving their final instalments this week.”
Maura Hopkins concluded by saying “We must continue to work in the interests of our farm families, in order to ensure they receive the funding and supports necessary to sustain their businesses and continue to support our rural economies.”
