The HSE have confirmed that funding for a 20 bed Specialist Rehabilitation Unit at Roscommon Hospital Rehab Unit has been delayed.
Just over 12 months ago funding of €7.85 million was announced for Unit, which is due to be constructed to the rear of the main hospital building. Earlier this week Consultant Geratrician at the hospital, Gerry O’Mara expressed his concern that the funding may have been withdrawn.
In a statement released to Shannonside FM the HSE said that although the funding was earmarked for the project in their 2016-2021 Capital Programme, funding constraints and competing priorities have dictated that no funding can be allocated to the project this year. No alternative date for the commencement of the project was confirmed.
The statement also confirmed that Spatial Plan for Roscommon Hospital, including provision for the Rehabilitation Unit has been developed by the local Estates Office and agreed by the Saolta Hospital Group.
