Athleague claim Senior League title
The Get Active, Get Healthy Roscommon Camogie Senior League Final took place on Sunday last in sweltering conditions in Athleague.
The opening score of the game came in the 4th minute of the half when Athleague corner forward, Leanne Kelly finished the ball to the back of the net after a fine pass from Annette McGeeney. Four Roads responded in the 5th minute with a point from a free from Sinead O’Brien. This was followed up by another point from Sinead again in the 12th minute from another free. Athleague went further ahead in the 16th minute with a point from a free from Kelley Hopkins. Four Roads added 2 more points from Cait Kenny and Niamh Coyle in the 20th and 21st minute. Leanne Kelly was on target again in the 22nd minute with a point and Linda Carty responded again for Four Roads in the 23rd minute. Athleague went 2 points ahead again with a point from Niamh Farrell and went further ahead in the 26th minute with a point from Annette McGeeney an the final score of the half came in the 28th minute when Kelley Hopkins sent over another free to leave the half time score Athleague 1-4 Four Roads 0-4.
Four Roads resumed very positively in the second half and reduced the deficit to 2 points after a fine run from Sinead O’Brien to slot the ball over the bar. Athleague went 4 points clear in the 34th minute when Kelley Hopkins scored a point from a free. However, the deficit was reduced to 3 again in the 35th minute with Sarah Kelly pointed a free for Four Roads. In the 36th minute of the half Athleague put 6 points between the teams when Annette McGeeney raced through the Four Roads defence and handpassed the ball to the back of the net. Four Roads responded in the 37th minute with another point from a free from Sarah Kelly.
In the 45th minute of the half, Athleague corner forward Aoife Beades sent over a fine point to leave 7 points between the teams. However, Four Roads did not give up and they fought back to score 2 excellent points from Cait Kenny and Sinead O’Brien. In the 57th minute of the half Cait Kenny was on hand to send the ball to the back of the net to leave just 3 points between the teams. At this stage both teams were tiring a little due to the intense heat. The final score of the game came in the 60th minute when Sinead O’Brien sent over another point. During the 3 minutes of injury time both defences held out.
Final score was Athleague 2-9 Four Roads 1-10.
After the game the Shield was presented to the Athleague captain Elaine Daly by the Vice-Chairperson of the Roscommon Camogie Board, Maeve Healy.

The 4th Round of the Under 14 League takes place this Tuesday, 31st May, with Athleague at home to St. Dominics, Four Roads at home to Roscommon Gaels and Tulsk at home to Oran.
Connacht Final
The Connacht Final between Roscommon Junior team and Galway Intermediate team will take place on this Friday, 3rd June 2016 at 7.30 p.m. in Athleague.
Caman to Connacht
The Caman to Connacht for all Under 12 teams takes place in Pearse Stadium, Galway on Bank Holiday Monday, 6th June. 5 Clubs from the County are taking part and all Clubs have been forwarded their fixtures for the day. Each Club will play 3 games each. Each game will last for 17 minutes with no break.
Roscommon Camogie Poc Fada Finals
The Roscommon Camogie Poc Fada for Under 16 and Senior players will take place in the Roscommon Racecourse on Tuesday, 22nd June. All Clubs are requested to send 1 player for the Under 16 and Senior section. The winner and runner up will represent the County at the Connacht Poc Fada which will take place in Connacht G.A.A. Centre in Bekan, Claremorris in July.
Connacht U.16 Club 7-a-side blitz
Clubs are requested to enter the Connacht Under 16 7-a-side blitz which takes place in the Connacht G.A.A. Centre, on Sunday, 26th June. Entry fee is €50 per Club.
