Michael Fitzmaurice has welcomed the news that the “forgotten farmers”, who attended the Government negotiations with him, have got a commitment in the programme for Government announced this week.
Speaking a short time ago Deputy Fitzmaurice said “the Minister for Agriculture will be going to Europe within the next two months to get a category for them (the “forgotten farmers”) so that they can receive the payments that they are entitled to, thus resolving this issue that has been going on for the past 10 to 12 years. This is something that I fought very hard for since I was elected first and I ensured that this was included in the programme for Government. I will be following up this matter urgently to ensure that these young farmers get the payments that they have been denied up to now” he concluded.
