Public Meeting to help save St Asicus Day Care Centre

keadue
An Emergency Public Meeting to retain the services at St Asicus Day Care Centre, Keadue will be held this Tuesday, March 8th at 8pm in St. Ronan’s Hall in Keadue.

The meeting is being organised by some family members of those currently using the service and they are encouraging all family members, friends and neighbours of people currently using the facility, or those availing of the associated Meals on Wheels program, to attend. People in the local communities who may need this service for themselves or family in years ahead are invited to attend this important meeting.

Last month it came to light that some of the funding for the Centre, which had been provided by Pobal, would not be continued beyond March 31st and the Centre would have to close.

A spokesperson for Pobal has confirmed that the Board of Management of the St Asicus Day Care Centre in Keadue have been unsuccessful in appealing the decision to withdraw funding and that any new application for funding, which would have to be processed via the Department of Social Protection, “would have to address all the outstanding concerns that led to the exit from the programme.”

A number of politicians put forward cases for the restoration of funding to the Centre in the days following the announcement however it remains to be seen if the concerns raised by Pobal can be resolved before the Centre is due to close on March 31st.
