Roscommon County Council is inviting applications for their Community Heritage Bursary and Heritage Research Bursary for 2016.
“This year we are seeking applications which relate to the themes and strands of the Ireland 2016 national events so we are looking forward to some exciting and interesting applications which will make a great contribution to the local County Roscommon Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme” said Nollaig Feeney, Heritage Officer.
The aim of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2012-2016 is to create and promote an increased knowledge, awareness and appreciation of the natural, built and cultural heritage of County Roscommon, and to conserve it for future generations, in other words: notice – care – enjoy.
Objective 1 of County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2012-201 is to collect and disseminate heritage information – ‘Notice’ – so as to facilitate the development of a comprehensive heritage database for the county and to make this information available to all. Under this objective, Action 1.3 is to establish a heritage bursary and sponsor annually one piece of third level research on an understudied aspect of the county’s heritage.
Objective 2 of County Roscommon Heritage Plan 2012-201 is to promote best practice in heritage conservation and management ‘Care’ – so as to promote and advise on best practice standards for heritage conservation and management within the county. Under this objective, Action 2.5 is to provide a small annual bursary for one community heritage project.
‘Roscommon County Council is now inviting applications for both bursaries’, said Nollaig Feeney Heritage Officer. Information sheets and application forms can be obtained from Roscommon County Council Customer Services, Áras an Chontae, Roscommon, phone 090 6632500 or via email [email protected]. They can also be downloaded from the Heritage Section of www.roscommoncoco.ie. Bursary reports from previous years can be downloaded also.
