If you know your Suffolks from your Jacobs when it comes to sheep – and even if you don’t – the Kepak All Ireland Sheep Shearing & Wool Handling Championships 2017 needs ewe (& you).
A meeting will be held on Friday 12th May in St. Brigid’s GAA Club at 9pm for anyone interested in volunteering.
The the Kepak All Ireland Sheep Shearing & Wool Handling Championships take place in Kiltoom this June Bank Holiday Weekend and organisers are urgently looking for volunteers to lend a hand with everything from general administration and assisting with trade stands to handling sheep and directing traffic.
The 2017 All-Ireland Sheep Shearing & Wool Handling Championships Championships are promising to be bigger and better than previous years but are relying on local support to ensure this happens. If you can spare a few hours in the run up to the weekend to help organisers prepare the site or if you are available to help out over the course of the weekend then those behind the event urgently want to hear from you.
Among the roles for which volunteers are being sought are:
sheep handlers, assisting with registration of competitors, sponsorship, trade stands, general admin, accommodation management, infrastructure – marquees, signage etc, health & safety, entertainment co-ordination, catering and logistics/parking.
The weekend-long championships will be hosted in conjunction with the Irish Sheep Shearers Association on the grounds of St. Brigid’s GAA Club in Kiltoom, and are expected to attract large numbers of visitors and benefit local businesses throughout the area.
“This event promises to be a memorable weekend and to make this happen a massive community effort is needed. St. Brigid’s is putting in place a full weekend programme of events and would greatly appreciate as many people as possible getting involved in this local community event,” commented Tomas Beades, Chairman of the Organising Committee.
If you can spare a few hours to help out with this event then you are asked to please attend the meeting, which is open to everyone from any area, on Friday next 12th May at 9pm.
