To celebrate Poetry Day Ireland, which takes place this Thursday April 27th, Roscommon writers and anyone with an interest is invited to celebrate the occasion in their local Libraries.
Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, and Roscommon libraries will display a selection of poems by their members, and host a lunchtime event where the poets can read their piece. Light refreshments and good atmosphere.
The theme this year is “Poetry Connects” and the events are set to begin at 1.30pm. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome. For more information email [email protected]
At 10:30am on Thursday the Strokestown Branch Library presents a reading by local poets and writers of their own poems, or poems related to this year’s Poetry Day Ireland theme of “connections”.
Poetry Day Ireland is a major one-day festival of Irish poets and poetry at home and abroad.
The Strokestown International Poetry Festival also gets under way on Thursday with events concluding on Monday May 1st. This year’s festival includes a reading with Sarah Clancy with support from members of the award-winning Hermit Collective, a headline event on this Saturday April 29th with Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin and Vincent Woods, and many more workshops, children’s poery readings, competition finals and events.
