Minor League: Clann na nGael 4-21 Pearses 2-4
Clann Minors returned to Johnstown on Sunday morning last for a meeting with neighbours Padraig Pearses in the 4th round of the Minor league.
Clann opened brightly and had two points on the scoreboard before Pearses struck for an early goal. However, this early setback only seemed to fire them up more and they dominated the remainder of the half to go in at the break with a comfortable lead.
The second half continued as with the opening half with Clann on top despite the best efforts of the lads from Moore, Taughmaconnell & Creagh. In the end, in what was a very competent performance from the Clann panel, they ran out comfortable winners. However, the lads know that tougher tests are waiting.

U.16 League: Clann na nGael 1-11 Strokestown 3-9
Clann couldn’t recover from a below par first half to get a result against a strong Strokestown team. Conceding 3 goals before half time left them with too big a task, but a great attempt was made by Clann to repair the damage and a few late goal chances were not taken.
In truth, Clann struggled at times to compete with the power and size of some of the Stroketown lads and our boys didn’t really impose themselves until the latter stage of the game and time simply ran out.
That makes two wins and two defeats in the league to date and a tough task in the last game against the runaway leaders of the division, St. Brigid’s. Next up is a div.4 game away to Eire Óg on Monday.

U.14 League: Div.1 – Roscommon Gaels 3-7 Clann 3-13
Lisnamult was the venue for Sunday’s double header against Roscommon Gaels, with the Division 1 teams first in action. Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze, Clann took an early lead with a series of well taken points in the first few minutes, adding a goal to their tally in the fifth minute.
Despite a slow start, and playing against the breeze, the Gaels started to come into the game later in the half, with a penalty attempt (saved by the Clann keeper). Undeterred, they rallied on to score a goal and three more unanswered points to bring themselves within 3 points of the visitors. Clann then extended their lead until half time, with the scoreline at 1-4 to Clann’s 1-10.
The second half opened up with a bang, with a goal at either end in the first 5 minutes. Clann had to play against the breeze, and against a spirited Gaels side, who will no doubt be a team to watch out for later in season. After a rather confusing incident, where it appeared a penalty was awarded against Clann, a quick tap in from a Gaels forward resulted in an awarded goal. Clann battled back though, and responded with a goal of their own and a series of points to finish out the game by a 6 point margin.

Div.4 – Roscommon Gaels 4-4 Clann na nGael 6-20
Buoyed on by their Div.1 teammates victory, the Division 4 team took the pitch immediately after the Division 1 game on Sunday. With a large panel to choose from, and an 11-a-side team limit, as well a maximum of 6 substitutions, this was a real loaves and fishes exercise for the Clann management, to ensure as many players as possible got to play. Starting off against the breeze, the Clann visitors opened up an early lead, with some new additions to the forwards getting their names on the scoresheet. Nevertheless, Roscommon Gaels stayed in contention, with a series of uncontested goals. Clann came back into it though, and held a 9 point advantage at half time (4-2 to Clann’s 5-8)
In the second half, a heavily substituted Clann side, with the aid of the breeze, began to assert themselves in the game, and focussed on point taking. A series of very well taken scores, from midfielders and forwards alike, is a good omen for this side’s performance in the league. They would go on to win the game by a sizeable margin. Many thanks to all the parents who gave lifts and supported our lads today.

Junior A League: Clann na nGael 3-12 St. Ronan’s 0-08
Clann kept up there unbeaten run in Tansey Cup on Saturday evening last with a good win over St. Ronan’s.
Clann’s young team played some great attacking football and ran out winners on scoreline of 3-12 0-08.
Next up for Junior team is St. Aidan’s next Saturday in Johnstown at 8pm.

Great start to Feile Campaign for Clann na nGael U14 Girls.
With weather and pitch conditions perfect in Johnstown last Monday the Clann U.14 girls kicked off their Feile campaign taking on St. Dominics. Clann having the majority of possession in the first 10 minute could not manage to rack up a score against the Dominics defence, but once they found the target they weren’t long about having the advantage at half time with a score line of 3-4 to 1-0.
The second half these girls showed an exceptional team effort from defence working hard, midfielders linking in with forwards and converting their chances. The St. Dominics team have to be commended for their determination and they played to the final whistle, but the Clann girls came out on top on this occasion with a final score line of 8-5 to 3-2. These girls now play County Feile Semi Final on Easter Monday.

Clann girls progress as group leaders to the semi final stage of the Division 1A Championship after a win to Boyle on Sunday 2nd April in Johnstown. The girls will play Boyle once again in the semi final next Sunday 9th April. Time & venue to be confirmed.
