Reserves defeated
The reserves bowed out of the Connacht Shield with a whimper on Sunday to a much more accomplished Galway Bohmenians “B” on a 2-0 scoreline. Cloonfad played against a strong breeze in the first half and almost held out only to concede on the stroke of half time. Indeed we almost took the lead as Sean Ruane was a whisker away from turning in Kevin Neenan’s cross. However that proved to be our only real chance as an early second half goal for Bohs saw them run out comfortable winners.
First Team
Cloonfad United are within touching distance of a return to the top flight after a hard earned 1-0 win versus CP Ajax on Saturday night. Connor Freely scored the game’s only goal and the same player also missed a second half penalty. Luke McDermott had a couple of good efforts as Cloonfad chased an insurance goal but we held on for a vital win.
Fixtures
Both teams are in action next weekend in the 2nd round of the Roscommon Cup. A very depleted first team travel to Strokestown who are unbeaten this season and will have it all to do to stay involved in this completion.
The reserves host division one champions Dysart at 2pm on Sunday and will be doing well to avoid a heavy defeat.
