Michael Fitzmaurice TD has wished the new Chairman of the Office of Public Works, Roscommon town resident Maurice Buckley, well in his new role and warned him that “It’s a challenging position”.
Maurice Buckley was appointed to the role in December and was previously the Chief Executive of the National Standards Authority of Ireland.
Commenting earlier Michael Fitzmaurice TD said “It’s a challenging position and among other things a lot of work remains to be done with regard to flood relief in this area. We have unresolved problems at Lough Funshinagh, Ardmullen, Cordell, Athleague, Bushfield, Castleplunkett, and in Boyle. We still have major problems with work that is needed immediately on the River Shannon. There are also serious problems to be solved in East Galway and South Galway and Taughmaconnell and in several other areas as well. I wish Maurice Buckley well in his new role but there is much work to be done and I look forward to working with him in the coming weeks and months” he concluded.
