Cloonfad United are through to Round 2 of the Conacht Junior Cup following an extra time victory away to Mayo Super League team Ballyheane.

Cloonfad United stated slowly and could have been two behind after only 10 minutes. However they soon settled and the contest really should have been over in normal time as Sean Doyle, Bobby Douglas and John Noone twice missed when it looked easier to score.
In the first period of extra time Cloonfad United scored twice with Doyle and Conor Freely hitting the target. As usual we made hard work of the lead we worked so hard for and conceded in the 2nd minute of the second period but just about held on to win.
As the players made their way to dressing room post game word filtered through the B team had a big win in the Connacht shield competition away to Ballinagare.
In that game Cloonfad United went behind early but made light of this set back to score 5 unanswered goals. Two goals from James McDonagh and Sean Ruane and one from Daryl Geraghty. Well done to all.
A minute’s silence was held before game in remembrance of the late Elaine Bownes RIP and Liz Moss RIP – sister of B team player Tom Moss.
