Places are available on two free Courses at the Roscommon Further Education Centre, Lisnamult.
“Skills for Work” is a national programme aimed at providing training opportunities to help employees deal with the basic skills demands of the workplace. Classes takes place at the Roscommon Further Education Centre on Thursdays from 7-9pm with the total duration of the course being approximately 35 hours. The programme is open to people in employment (full or part-time including self-employment/farming) you are entitled to participate in this free course which focuses on Communications through IT. Skills for Work includes a variety of subjects which support the educational needs of the employee and include IT Skills (Internet/Email, Typing, Spreadsheets etc). The subjects are designed and delivered in a flexible and adaptable way to meet the needs of both the employee and employer.
The aims of the Skills for Work Programme is to promote an ethos of lifelong learning in the workplace, to contribute towards the creation of a well-educated and highly skilled workforce, raise the competency level of the employees with low levels of educational qualifications, develop initiatives, to enhance employees communication and basic IT skills and enable employees to cope with frequent and ongoing changes in work practice. As mention above the course is free as the initiative is funded by the Irish Government under the Department of Education and Skills.
Roscommon Further Education Centre also runs daytime classes under the Digital Skills for Citizens Scheme, which is a key part of the Government’s National Digital Strategy. It aims to give people the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online and complete tasks such as sending emails, paying their car tax, checking their bank accounts etc.
