Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed applications are now open for Phase 2 of Music Generation, a pioneering non-mainstream music education programme that creates access to high-quality, subsidised vocal and instrumental tuition for children and young people in their own locality.
A total of €3m in funding is available from philanthropic investment by U2 and The Ireland Funds, and Denis Naughten is encouraging Music Education Partnerships throughout Roscommon and Galway to apply.
For Phase 2, local Music Education Partnerships are eligible to apply for 50% seed funding up to a maximum of €200,000 per year for an initial three year period. From 2020, the Department of Education and Skills will replace the philanthropic donations to ensure programmes are sustained on a long-term and lasting basis, alongside ongoing local funding.
Commenting on the programme, Minister Naughten said:
“This funding is very welcome in providing access to music education for children throughout the area and I am delighted it has been secured to support the long-term future of non-mainstream music education.”
It is expected that 38,000 children across the country will access the programme.
New Music Education Partnerships must register their interest in applying to Music Generation by Friday February 17th. The closing date for completed applications is Wednesday May 31st.
