20 projects from Roscommon Post Primary Schools are among the 550 nationwide which have featured at the 2017 BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition over recent days.
The 20 local BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition projects come from 46 students of four local Schools: CBS Roscommon, Scoil Mhuire Strokestown, Scoil Mhuire gan Smàl – Roscommon town and Roscommon Community College.
Their projects are as follows:
– A comparative study of fungal diversity in areas of varying light intensity
– A statistical analysis into the impact of the new CAO point system on the update of higher level subjects and class sizes.
– An analysis of young adults gambling in rural areas in comparison to urban areas
– An detailed analysis into the role of clover in reducing artificial Nitrogen consumption and increase grass palatability and growth rate.
– An investigation into the effects of the pine martens on the ecology and balance of nature of Roscommon Woodlands
– An investigation into the quality of effluent discharging domestic waste water treatment systems (septic tanks) and an apparatus to improve this.

Roscommon Schools have performed well at the Exhibition in recent years and picked up three awards last year. This year’s Award winners are due to be announced this evening.
The BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition continues until tomorrow (Saturday January 14th).
