A Ballaghaderreen group which wants to bring people together in support of the Syrian Refugees, who are due to be housed in the former Abbeyfield Hotel, is hosting a public meeting tonight.
The group, known as “Welcome to Roscommon” , is hosting the meeting at 8pm in Spells Bar. The aim of the meeting is to work out how to best help the Refugees when they arrive and to make them feel welcome.
Elsewhere, Ballaghaderreen Chamber are holding a meeting in Durkins Bar at 8pm to discuss the implications to local businesses of the change of use of the Abbeyfield Hotel to an Emergency Reception and Orientation Centre for asylum seekers.
There was shock in the locality at the weekend with the news that a small number of individuals travelled to the town to distribute anti-islamic literature in the area.
