The Roscommon Senior Footballers recorded a facile 25 point victory over IT Sligo in the FBD Connacht Senior Football League at Abbey Park, Boyle this afternoon.

Roscommon led by 1-4 before the Students, who had not played competitively since November, got their opening point. The Roscommon goal came from Captain Ciarain Murtagh, who clocked up a total of 1-6 in the opening 35 minutes. Andy Glennon grabbed the other goal and Donie Smith was in fine form on his home ground, scoring four points.

The second half began with a penalty to Roscommon and with Ciarain Murtagh substituted at half-time it was the turn of his brother Diarmuid to send the ball to the back of the net. Moments later Andy Glennon got his second goal of the game. The Michael Glavey’s man completed his hat-trick in the 43rd minute. What followed was an opportunity for both teams to boost their fitness and shooting skills ahead of bigger days to come. Shane Killoran rounded off the goal scoring with Roscommon’s sixth green flag in the 63rd minute. It ended Roscommon 6-21 IT Sligo 0-14.

Next up is the visit of NUI Galway to Ballyforan on Sunday at 2pm.
