SSE Airtricity Dublin City Marathon

Pictured above is Tom Reddington, from Fuerty, who was one of the many Roscommon people that competed in the SSE Airtricity Dublin City Marathon. Overall, 19,500 runners took to the Fitzwilliam Square start line to participate in the 37th running of the Marathon, making it the fourth largest marathon in Europe.

Gaelic Games

Oran ended Four Roads’ bid for 9 Senior Hurling Championship titles in a rown after a dramatic game in Athleague on Saturday afternoon. Report here.

Soccer

Vincent Brooks looks back on the weekend’s action in the Roscommon and District Football League here.
In addition, the draw for the local section of 4th Round FAI Junior Cup took place recently. Castlerea Celtic have been drawn with Ballinasloe Town and Boyle Celtic will take on Shiven Rovers. The Ties are scheduled for Sunday November 13th.

Ladies Gaelic Football

Padraig Pearses suffered a 4-9(21)to 2-10(16) defeat to Annaghdown in the Connacht Intermediate Club Final. The Pearses goals came from Jenny Downey and Olivia Sweeney.

Rugby

Connacht suffered a 13-24 loss to Leinster in the PRO12. In addition Sean O’Brien sustained a hamstring injury and Craig Ronaldson sustained a concussion. Kiltoom’s Jack Carty was on the scoresheet with a late conversion.

There was better news for the Roscommon men playing for Buccaneers. They defeated Dolphin in the Ulster Bank League. Read Michael Silke’s Report here.

Handball

The Connacht One-Wall Handball Championships took place in Mount Talbot today but the full set of results are not available yet. They will be added in due course.
