Vincent Brooks looks back on the weekend’s action, so far, in the Roscommon and District Football League.
Ballymoe FC made it seven wins in a row in the Premier Division of the Roscommon and District Football League when they beat Ballaghaderreen in a seven goal thriller at Ballymoe. The home side were rocked when Shane Duffy gave Ballaghaderreen a 1 – 0 lead with only three minutes played. Seven Minutes later Ballymoe were level thanks to their leading goal scorer Daniel Malone and he added a second with twenty six played. Gregory Grogan made it 3 – 1 for Ballymoe with forty played. However Ballaghaderreen were not giving up and Lee Keenan scored two to level the game with sixty eight played. Cathal Connelly scored the winner for Ballymoe with ten minutes left to play but there was still time for Alex Meingan from Ballaghaderreen to strike the cross bar with a volley.
Holders Castlerea Celtic were relieved to take all three points from their away game against Skyvalley Rovers. With Benny Lynch in top form the home side battled for every ball and at the end of the game they were disappointed to get nothing from the game. A stunning strike from Eoin Burke gave Skyvalley Rovers a 1 – 0 lead with forty three played. However they conceded through an own goal within a minute. In the second half Ronan Curran converted a penalty kick to win all three points for Castlerea Celtic.
St Johns Athletic and Shiven Rovers drew 3 – 3 at Lecarrow. Eric Walsh gave Shiven Rovers an early lead. Sean Derwin scored two and Anthony O Reardon one to give St Johns a 3 – 1 lead. Shane Harkin and Tom Doyle levelled the game with goals in the last ten minutes of the game.
Ballinasloe Town beat bottom side Brazukas 4 – 0 at Ballinasloe. Peter Keighery David Cullen Mark and Shane Duffy scored the goals for the winners.
Dysart are six points clear at the top of the Norios Take Away sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division 1 following a hard earned 2 – 0 win over second placed Cloonfad United who have a game less played.
Andy Higgins got on the end of a good cross to give Dysart a 1 – 0 lead with just five minutes played. Cloonfad were the better side after the break and a missed penalty cost them dearly. Eoin Fallon scored a second for Dysart with sixty two minutes played.
Glen Celtic beat the Castleplunket side C P Ajax 5 – 2 at Glenamaddy. Willie Comer, Ryan Mc Hugh, Conor Tully and Cathal Hynes gave Glen Celtic a 4 – 1 lead at half time. Adrian Glynn and David Coyne replied for the visitors before Cathal Hynes added his second.
Lough Harps kept their hopes of promotion alive when they beat Rahara Rovers 3 – 1 at Ballinlough. Ger Cunningham, Ger Gallagher and Mike Golden were in fine form for the winners with Tiernan Murphy scoring two and Michael Golden one. Sean Commane replied for Rahara Rovers
In Kileen Sportsgrounds sponsored Roscommon and District Football League Division 2 Moore United moved into second place behind Strokestown United with a 4 – 2 win over Dunmore Town.
Darragh Pettit scored two and Shane Kenny and Thomas Naughton one each for Moore United with Anthony Broderick and Niall Gleeson replying for third placed Moylough.
Cam Celtic had an impressive 4–1 win over Castlerea Celtic at Castlerea. Nathan Fitzpatrick gave the home side an early lead. Gareth Mulligan scored each side of half time and Keith Dolan and Kevin Quinn added two more for Adrian Mc Donnell’s men.
Shiven Rovers drew 1–1 with Skyvalley Rovers at Newbridge. David Kelly for Shiven and Dillon Ryan for the Taughmaconnell side scored the goals.
Moylough beat Roscommon United 3–0 at Moylough. Michael Foley, Adam Connolly and Finbar Hughes scored in the first half for the winners. Earlier in the week Moylough beat Cloonfad United 3 – 0 at Cloonfad. Mike Kelly scored two and Adam Connolly one.
