Paddy Biesty RIP

Paddy Beisty, the second last surviving member of Roscommon’s All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning team of 1944 have been announced. The former Elphin player passed away at Sligo University Hospital yesterday. Paddy is survived by wife Carol, sons T.J. (Hawaii), Jim, Bill & Marty (all Washington), daughters Maureen and Dianne (both L.A.), sisters Maud and Anne. His Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Reposing at Brady’s Funeral Home, Elphin, on Sunday from 4.30pm with Removal at 6pm to the Holy Trinity Church, Kilmaryal. Funeral Mass on Monday at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Elphin Community Playground.

Hyde Park update

Following on from last week’s post about the progress being made on the playing surface at Dr Hyde Park readers will be delighted to hear that the rolls of “grass” have arrived from England and the Ball Stop nets behind the goal areas were erected today.

Roscommon GAA Management saga nearing the end

Roscommon GAA bosses are hopeful that they will be in a position to put the names of the incoming Senior and Under 21 Football Team Management before Club Delegates at tomorrow (Thursday) night’s County Board Meeting in the Abbey Hotel. Kevin McStay is expected to be ratified as the Senior Manager.

Connacht Club Intermediate game changed

The Connacht Club Intermediate Football Championship Quarter-Final involving the yet to be determined Roscommon Champions will now be played on Sunday at 1pm in Tuam Stadium. Either Kilmore or Oran will face Monivea-Abbey.

Saturday’s Roscommon Intermediate Final Replay takes place in Strokestown and will throw-in at 2pm. It will be followed at 4pm by the Junior A Final Replay between Creggs and Kilglass Gaels.

“Up for the Match”

Roscommon GAA Club Rossie are hosting another “Up for the Match” event ahead of this Sunday’s Hodson Bay Hotel Group Senior Football Championship Final between St Brigids and Padraig Pearses.

The event will be held in the Hodson Bay Hotel on Friday from 9:30pm and will include interviews with former players of the two sides as well as officers and supporters. There’ll be music, laughter, light refreshments and all are welcome.

Sunday’s Final, in Kiltoom, throws in at 3:30pm and will be shown live on TG4. It will be preceded by the Division 3 Minor Final between Kilbride and St Aidans at 1:15pm.
